The Miz Accepts a Challenge from Scott Engel
RotoExperts’ Sirius XM Fantasy Sports Radio talk show host, Fantasy Sports Writers Association Hall of Famer, Scott Engel and The Miz did some trash talking on the air yesterday over who will win the title in the Sirius XM Celebrity Fantasy Football League.
Listen as Scott Engel issues a throwdown.
If The Miz wins, Engel gets body slammed. If Engel wins, The Miz gets put into a RotoExperts X headlock. I know what you’re thinking… “What the hell is a RotoExperts X headlock?” You won’t find the answer Google search, you you won’t find it on TV, your just gonna have to watch and see…..
IMPACT WRESTLING Fantasy Season 1 Starts This Sunday, July 10
Last month I reported that the Official IMPACT WRESTLING Fantasy Game had arrived. For those who think they know everything about IMPACT WRESTLING or can predict everything that’s going to happen on IMPACT WRESTLING - now there’s finally place to truly test that knowledge. Featuring a revolutionary, one-of-a-kind scoring system that tracks and awards points for happenings in each episode of IMPACT WRESTLING as well as Pay-Per-View events, the IMPACT WRESTLING Fantasy Game takes the extremely popular world of Fantasy Sports inside the ring…where “Wrestling Matters.”
Close to 20,000 IMPACT WRESTLING fans have participated in the Free Trial Period Season of the IMPACT WRESTLING Fantasy Game, which culminated on July 7th. But on July 10, fantasy wrestling starts for real, as the Official Season 1 of Impact Wrestling Fantasy begins at Destination X. In addition to a clean slate and new chance at winning, Season 1 will feature “Bound for Glory Series Pick `Em” – a new way for all fantasy owners to earn points in both the Public League and all private custom leagues.
Each fantasy owner in the Public League, and all private custom leagues, will be able to select one Bound for Glory Series competitor that will earn them extra fantasy points each time they place first through fifth at a live event. The “BFG Pick `Em” section of Team Manager pages is where fantasy competitors can lock in their picks starting July 10, and then watch as BFG Series points tallied by their wrestler at all live events and IMPACT WRESTLING shows earn them extra fantasy points in their respective leagues.
Wrestling with Shame: Talking Fantasy Wrestling with Brian Kendrick
Fantasy is now a reality for Impact Wrestling, and we’ve had a chance to see the action from the gaming end. But what about the wrestlers? At Impact Wrestling’s recent Slammiversary event I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Brian Kendrick, a high flyer who was to battle for the X-Division championship. He shared some inside scouting information about which wrestlers might succeed with the Fantasy scoring system Impact Wrestling’s Fantasy game is using. His answers proved to be highly prophetic.
Couldn’t Get Your Private Leagues Together Before Slammiversary? No Worries! Did you sign up for the IMPACT WRESTLING Fantasy Game after Slammiversary, or create/join a private league but still haven’t drafted yet? Well, don’t fret. You can still register, create/join private leagues now, and hold live drafts following the Impact airing on June 23. But get your league together and get ready now, either for the Free Trial Period, or official Season 1, which begins at Destination X on July 10.

Wrestling with Shame: Macho Man Randy Savage
Oooohhhh Yeaaahhhhhh. There was only one way to start today’s entry. I still remember when Randy Savage came to the World Wrestling Federations. No one had ever heard of him. This was in the days before internet newsgroups and any kind of underground rumor mongering. Macho Man got the same push that many superstars get when they make their entrance. The difference is that his push never ended. He entered the WWF with an air of legitimacy and took off from there. There was never a doubt that he was a top draw even from day one. His battles and ensuing partnerships with Hulk Hogan came with a full helping of cheese, but Savage’s intensity pulled Hogan’s weak theatrics and Ms. Elizabeth’s demure personality right through it. It was never the same once he went to WCW, but it was that way for many wrestlers, just ask Brett Hart.
Thank you Mach Man, for taking all the corny stuff from the Rock ‘n Jock era and making it all a little more real.
All In Picks: May 21, 2011
Macho Man, you will be missed.
Randy Macho Man Savage (real name, Randy Mario Poffo) died in a car crash yesterday. When I heard the news, both his passing and the memories of how wrestling used to be entertaining saddened me.
The WWF (now WWE) was at its peak during Macho Man’s time. He, Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Rick Flair and numerous others took wrestling to a new level. Ricky Steamboat versus Randy Savage was not only one of Macho Man’s best matches ever, it was also one of the best Wrestlemania matches of all time.
Their impact transcended the sport and began the crossover into mainstream media and advertising. Slim Jims would never have become so successful and well known if not for Macho Man and his, “Snap into a Slim Jim, Oooh Yeah!” Savage was so big in fact, he appeared in Spiderman as Bonesaw McGraw, years after retiring from the WWF/WWE. (Savage did wrestle in TNA – Total Nonstop Action – for a brief time, but it paled in comparison to anything with WWF/WWE).
Savage’s time in wrestling was the heyday of the sport. While many still enjoyed watching as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H and The Rock took over, it has now fallen far from its prime. Wrestling will never be the same, and we have lost one of the supreme legends of wrestling… so, in Macho Man’s honor, give yourself one more, “Oooh, Yeah!”
Macho Man Randy Savage Dead at 58 (Unclear if Doomsday Related)
“Ooooooh Yeaahhhhh….”
Randy Poffo, better known as 1980s pro wrestling icon Randy “Macho Man” Savage, died Thursday morning at the age of 58 after suffering a heart attack and losing control of his vehicle. Savage’s new wife, Lynn, was a passenger in the vehicle during the collision and survived with “minor injuries.” She was transported to a different local hospital where she was treated. Earlier this month, the couple celebrated their 1-year anniversary.
According to published reports, Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he veered across a concrete median through oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a tree. Savage was transported to Largo Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. Apparently, at the time of the accident, both Randy and Lynn were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor.
Savage was best known as one of the top stars of the then-WWF, performing against Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat in March 29, 1987 in Wrestlemania III in what is considered one of the greatest pro wrestling matches of all time. He was both one of the most loved and hated performers in the WWF and the competing WCW, squaring off against the likes of Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and The Ultimate Warrior. He was known for his trademark elbow drop from the top rope, his manager and former wife, the late Elizabeth, and for his seemingly ever-present Slim Jim commercials. He held several world championships.
Wrestling with Shame: Dr. Isaac Yankem, DDS
Last week I shared with you my personal history with Professional Wrestling. I talked about the great (and not so great) organizations that helped turn wrestling into the huge business that it has become. Those of us old enough to have watched the American Wrestling Association or World Class Championship Wrestling get a little nostalgic when we talk about wrestlers of yore. What about the current day though? Is pro wrestling what it was just a few short years ago? In my next few posts I’ll give my breakdown of the current landscape in wrestling. A State of the Union if you will (where are you when I need you Dusty?).
World Wrestling Entertainment
You really can’t start anywhere else. The WWE draws ratings that are head and shoulders above the limited competition. Is it warranted? The WWE has the best product going right now, but that doesn’t mean it’s heading in the right direction. In what I assume is a conscious effort to get younger, the WWE is really lacking in wrestlers with the charisma and star power to be main eventers well into the future. In fact I dare say only two wrestlers on the current roster offer the complete package.
Wrestling with Shame
I have a secret; it’s one of the deep, dark kind. At first glimpse I’m a pretty normal guy. I’m 42 years old; a proud husband and father to two wonderful children. I’ve served my country, both as a soldier, and later as an educator. I’ve never done drugs in my life and drink responsibly a few times a year. I’ve never been to jail; in fact the closest I’ve come to committing a crime may be downloading a few copyrighted MP3s when Napster first hit it big. In short I’m pretty much just your everyday, average, normal guy (although incredibly handsome).
So why do I lock myself in my room on some nights and slither away from crowds at other times? What has filled me with shame and embarrassment and probably sentenced my soul to hell? I watch Professional Wrestling. I pretty much always have.
